what can I do to get my 6 month old red nose pitbull to STOP biting my family and I?
i feel like we have tried everything. we have put him in another room when he does it, we made this a pattern but all he does is freak out when he gets locked up. I have tried the whole be good for treats thing but as soon as he gets the treat he’s back into biting my family or the furniture. he is becoming very destructive. I saw on tv that I should neuter him, but thats the last thing i would want to do. someone please help!
The same way you’d get ANY-color pit bull to stop biting — bite inhibition training. Bite-inhibition is the ability of a dog to control the force with which he bites. Every time — and I mean EVERY time — he puts his teeth on you, let out a high-pitched yip “OW!” and turn away and ignore him for a few minutes.

Neutering should be one of the FIRST things you want to do (although at his age, hormones probably have nothing to do with biting anyway). Surely you’re not planning on becoming a backyard breeder. I seriously doubt that the world needs your particular pit’s genes to be replicated, and when he reaches sexual maturity, the instinct is going to make him even more difficult to manage. The younger you have him neutered, the easier the surgery and recovery are on him.
Raising a pit bull properly can be almost as much as work as raising a child. They are not for passive owners. A long walk first thing every day is one of the best things you can do for yourself and for your dog. It satisfies the instinct for migration (plain old walking, just as wild canines do every day upon arising), provides mental stimulation and physical exercise, relieves the boredom that can lead to destructiveness, makes him much less likely to try to escape your home and yard on his own, and is vital for socialization (to teach him how to behave in various situations).

P.S. Please don’t listen to the hysterical dimwit who suggests that biting your puppy would teach him not to bite. And never, EVER hit your pit bull; if you do, they will become distrustful of you, always wondering when it’s going to come at them again from out of nowhere. This is just one more reason why you need to get your act together, so you can deal with behavioral problems without losing your temper. If you need a way to interrupt behavior that he *has been trained not to do*, try shaking a can of pennies.
